Pacuare River Lodge is located right on the banks of the beautiful and impressive Pacuare River, surrounded by endless territory of vast and unexplored tropical rainforests. This area is part of the largest uninterrupted tropical jungle in Costa Rica and home to thousands of species of wildlife, both flora and fauna, as well as the Cabecar Indigenous people. The 14 bungalows are distributed strategically in order to provide privacy. Each unit offers a distinct but amazing panoramic view of the surrounding nature.

Can I arrive with my own car?
Driving your own car or using private transportation to the Lodge is not available at this time. The easiest way to enter or exit the Lodge is via rafting. If you are not interested in rafting, our company will take you in or out via 4X4.
If you have a rental car, please let us know and we will store the car in a safe location while you are rafting or staying at the Lodge. Upon exit from the Lodge, we will shuttle your car to the take-out location on the river so you can continue on to your next destination (this is at no additional cost).
Can I visit the Lodge independently?
The Lodge arranges the entry and exit of all clients, the guiding, cooking, and transportation of meals and supplies to the Lodge, therefore; you must book your reservation through us.
Does the Lodge have electricity?
Yes, we have electricity from our solar panels and backup storage. You may have the option to charge small electronic devices like digital cameras, notebooks, or flash lights in your bungalow. We also use low voltage lights in your bungalow and in the dining area.
Does the Lodge have internet?
The Lodge does not have internet services or WiFi due to its remote location.
What should I pack?
Please pack as lightly as possible as luggage is transported via rafts. If possible, only bring one backpack per person with the following items:
- Shoes – Athletic Sandal (Tevas or Chacos), tennis shoe or River Booties
- Synthetic, quick-dry T-shirt (long sleeve is great for added sun protection)
- Personal Toiletries
- Light Waterproof Jacket for evenings
- Dry shoes for camp
- Clothing for the Lodge
- Waterproof Sunscreen (50 SPF or better)
- Insect Repellent
- Dry Clothes for the Take-out
- Croakies or straps to secure glasses
- Prescription medications needed during the tour

What is the weather like?
The dry season around the area lasts from about the middle of December until August. These days are very sunny. The rainy season lasts from about September until the beginning of December. These days are sunny in the mornings with the possibility of rain in the afternoon. Both seasons are beautiful and great times to visit the Lodge. Rafting is possible year-round.
Does the Lodge have air conditioning?
Our Lodge is committed to sustainability and eco-tourism, therefore; it does not have air conditioning. Our mission is to provide you with an experience that is as natural as possible while still being comfortable. The kitchens and bungalows are open-air and ventilated by jungle breezes.
What are the bungalows like?
Each of our bungalows are perched above the Pacuare River, providing unique views of the river and Lodge property. All of the bungalows are open-air rooms enclosed in screen. You can choose between one full sized bed or two twin beds.
Are all meals included at the Lodge?
Yes, all meals are included at the Lodge starting with lunch the first day and ending with lunch on your final day. Meals are provided through our rafting and tour companies. Meals are transported with you via the rafts or delivered to the Lodge. The guide provides all cooking and meal preparation. Please view our Testimonials for reviews about these meals.
Are there restrictions for activities at the Lodge?
Please contact us if you have a child under the age of 12, are currently pregnant, have recently undergone surgery, or have any health concerns about staying at the Lodge. We will work with you!
What do I do if I have special dietary needs?
Please inform us of your dietary needs at the time of booking so that we can accommodate you.
Is smoking permitted at the Lodge?
No smoking will be permitted anywhere on Lodge property. The Lodge is a smoke-free area.
Are pets or guide animals permitted at the Lodge?
Pets and guide animals are not permitted at the Lodge for their own safety.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
To confirm your reservation we need 30% of the total cost of the trip and this is NOT refundable for any reason.
The remaining 70% is due three weeks prior to the trip. If the remainder is not collected at that time, the trip will be cancelled and the 30% deposit will not be returned.
No-shows will be charged in full and no refund will be given.
Modifications to reservations may be made before the charge of the remaining 70%.
If you have to leave Costa Rica before the end of your stay (early departure) no refund will be given.
If you reduce the number of guests once the reservation has been paid, no refund will be given.
Rafting for children will depend on water level, age of the child and weather conditions.

Pacuare River Lodge reserves the right to cancel the rafting tour for safety reasons.
Rafting 1-day trips: In case of Cancelation due to weather, only Pacuare River Lodge can decide if the rafting tour can be made. If this occurs, the cost of the Rafting Trip will be refunded minus credit card fees. However, Transportation contracted through Pacuare River Lodge will not be refunded.
Rafting 2-days and 3-days trips: If the second or third day of rafting is cancelled due to weather and a by-land evacuation is required, no refund will be given.
